Only Today (a poem)

A woman dancing at the beach as the sun goes down over Bali, as seen from Gili, Indonesia.

Ever speaking of future,
my dreams I would share.
Oh the things I’d accomplish,
when I arrived there.

When at last I looked back,
it was then I did find,
my life was created,
one day at a time.

Each day was unique,
with promise its own.
Yet so many wasted,
just sitting at home.

Now I stand in this day,
of unfulfilled dreams,
asking what has become,
of all my grand schemes?

I’m thankful I realized,
before it’s too late,
that dreams are important,
and never should wait.

Don’t wait for tomorrow,
with the hope it will come.
Take hold of this moment,
and dance in the sun.

Go live out your dreams,
‘fore time slips away.
The truth, in the end,
all we have is today.
