I did a search for an image to accompany my latest poem, and these were the results.
Just when I think I’m at a point where I’m okay and can finally start moving forward, someone casually or incendiarily hurls those three words, burning me to the core.
They have seen it all and stood strong despite the pushback. They have the scars to show for it, but they also have resilience.
Some of my ancestors crossed an ocean to live in a land they had never seen. Some lived out their entire lives in one place, never venturing outside of their village, never seeing an ocean.
Good, bad, and ugly, we have all been given a legacy. It is up to us to decide what pieces, if any, are worthy of handing down…
We stand up, shout out, punch up, and don’t punch out until the message is heard loud and clear.

We are all affected by a solar eclipse in ways great and small, but I never expected this.
