Awakened again,
unable to sleep,
for the stirrings below
of leviathans deep.
Never confronting,
I choose to ignore.
My ship in the harbor,
my feet on the shore.
No better than Ahab,
whose madness was clear.
His obsession gave chase,
whilst I cower in fear.
From darkness they rise,
up into the light,
where I force them back down
for just one more night.
When sleep finally comes,
the alarm bids me wake,
and I leave it behind
for my sanity’s sake.
Tonight they’ll return,
of this I am certain.
When still in my bed,
and drawn is my curtain.
