once tall (a poem)

A single wall and turret of Mow Cop Castle as seen from below, against a cloudy blue sky, on a rocky hillside in the Biddulph valley in the county of Staffordshire.

the first brick fell
the wall soon followed
the inside shown
as not but hollow

though once it had life
now all that remained
was a blight to all
the building disdained

life has a way of emptying all
now reduced, what once stood tall

Blue Frog Books posted this challenge on their Facebook page:
“Ok. Trying something out. Facebook Slam. Honor system is in place. You have 5 minutes. Be honest. Set the timer on that fancy phone of yours. Your word is …..”Brick”…
Poetry Slam…er Facebook Slam…..Go…..”

I have to say, 5 minutes goes a lot faster than I ever expected.
