This world is diverse for a reason (article)

Paper cut-outs of people's heads and the Earth. Each of the items is wrinkled and overlaps those to the right of it. Each of the faces is cut from paper, which is reflective of the diverse skin colors of the human race. The Earth is cut from blue and green papers. All of the faces are pointed to the right, showing the concept of working together for progress.

We live in a world where hatred and division are preached by those in power, by those who claim to follow a loving creator, by those whose goal is to silence, control, and ultimately destroy diversity.

We are beginning to see with our own eyes what happens when the diversity necessary for our planet to thrive is threatened. We now understand more fully how integral diversity is in creating and maintaining a habitable environment for all life on Earth.

We now see more clearly why we have a diverse ecosystem in which seemingly disparate life forms work together to create unique relationships that benefit not only those involved but other organisms and systems around them as well.

Diversity of thought, ability, desire, understanding, and purpose is what makes us strong. It is why we were born into a world whose very existence relies upon those basic building blocks.

Diversity is not only what makes the universe beautiful, it is what makes it thrive.

It is time for us to celebrate our diversity and to bring together our unique perspectives and understanding. It is time to work, each according to our own ability, towards a greater purpose. It is time to recognize that only together will we stand a chance of saving our home and ourselves.

To accomplish this we need to come together to protect the diversity which has always existed both around and among us. We must stop stripping our planet and our people of their strongest assets and celebrate what makes them unique.

It is no longer enough to coexist. Our relationship to each other, and the life and systems around us, must reach a state of symbiosis. We must nurture, support, and care for one another. If we don’t, it will be the death of us all.
