I Stand Alone (a vignette)

A bright red umbrella site alone on an aged European, wet, gray brick street. Overlay of pianist playing piano.

I stand alone, secure beneath the covered porch, watching as the sunrise and rain begin to dispel the softness of the morning mist that lies before me. My thoughts stretch beyond the distance, reaching out across the miles.

Gently swaying, melding waves of dusty mauve and blue begin to form within the fog. Quickly taking shape, the silhouette of a young woman appears before me, and then she is there.

A tender smile adorns her face, both warm and unsettling. Water droplets roll off her small, red umbrella and from my eyes.

My heart flies to her as tears flow down her cheeks. My daughter has returned.

Inspired by music from Pianist and composer Jason Fertig, who asked via Threads, “How does this song make you feel?”

My little vignette is nothing without the music to accompany it. Be sure to listen while you read.
