Tonight (a poem)

I thought that I would sit down,
and write just how I feel,
but right now, this point in time,
nothing seems quite real.

It’s not like I have never ever
seen this place before,
when suddenly, inexplicably
my heart has hit the floor.

Now things should be different,
now things should have changed,
it should have made a difference,
when life got rearranged.

But all my struggles are still here,
the desire’s still the same,
it’s now that fears resurface,
along with guilt and shame.

The days are always busy,
filled up with things to do,
all designed to keep my mind
unfocused for a few,

but when it starts to quiet down,
I soon begin to find,
everything it just spills out,
that was held in my mind.

With tomorrow’s sun I wake,
to a bright and brand new day,
but tonight, in the midst of pain,
I had something here to say.
