I have learned a difficult lesson by comparing my behavior to that of my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents and then critically examining how my influence has affected the ways in which my adult children behave.
Good, bad, and ugly, we have all been given a legacy. It is up to us to decide what pieces, if any, are worthy of handing down to the next generation. Then, it is up to each of us to clean house so that our kids don’t have to do it after we die.
Sometimes, our history is difficult to look at, but it is crucial to understanding how we got to where we are today and how we can make a lasting positive impact on future generations.
