Blink (a poem)

A close-up photo of the right side of the front of a redheaded caucasian woman's face with her eye closed, blinking.

An hour lasts forever.
A lifetime’s just a blink.
The time it takes to get there
is never what you think.

The years go by so slowly
watching our children play.
Where did all the time go?
I really cannot say.

Now, they’re the busy ones
raising kids their own
Don’t ever miss a moment
blink and they’ll be grown.

I realize I’m two-thirds there,
if grandma’s are a gauge.
In the end, the life I wrote
is another forgotten page.

We come and then go
as time moves slowly on.
We’re only here a little while
blink and we’ll be gone.
