Scars (a poem)

Close-up of a weathered and cracked, white statue of an angel leaning on a table, head down, hands clasped, fingers interlocked, praying. Located in an Uruguayan cemetery.

As I sit in your chair
in the home that we bought.
I focus on memories
and happier thoughts.

Although I will miss you
and who we were then.
I wish you the best
as another year ends.

It’s been years since the cut
and I still feel the pain.
The wounds they have healed
but the scars will remain.

The lives we have now
blend heartache and peace,
…and loneliness only
more time can release.

I hope that someday,
You’ll find what you need,
with love that is healing,
your sadness relieved.

It’s been years since the cut
and I still feel the pain.
The wounds they have healed
but the scars will remain.
