My Transgender Agenda (a poem)

In light of recent events, I thought I’d come clean and share…

My Trans Agenda:

  • Write more poetry.
  • Support marginalized people.
  • Stop and smell the roses (literally).
  • Read and learn as much as I can.
  • Thank people for their kindness.
  • Appreciate the little things.
  • Talk less and listen more.
  • Love my neighbor even if it’s not returned.
  • Help people in need.
  • Learn from my mistakes.
  • Be a better person than I was yesterday.
  • Take time for self-care.
  • Pet my cats more (despite my allergies).
  • Accept myself as I am, for who I am.
  • Expose hatred for what it is: fear.
  • Learn to be more vulnerable.
  • Learn to play piano, again.
  • Publish my book of poetry.
  • Finish my novel.
  • Be the person my friends think I am.
  • Learn to speak and write Tsalagi (Cherokee).
  • Unlearn bad behaviors from my childhood.
  • Support artists of all mediums.
  • Share my blessings.
  • Touch people’s hearts. (not literally. metaphorically speaking, of course.)
  • Visit the places my ancestors lived. (especially Chota)
  • Appreciate the quiet times in between.
  • Learn to live with less.
  • Contribute to a better future for everyone.
  • Make room for wildlife in my yard.
  • Promote healthy boundaries.
  • Respect people’s differences.
  • Get out more.
  • Spend time with the people who matter most to me.
  • Learn perspective from each generation.
  • Be open to change.
  • Work toward a more equitable world.
  • Stand up for myself when necessary.
  • Hold onto my faith in people.
  • Love enough to forgive.
  • Show kindness.
  • Be merciful.
  • Practice humility.
  • Be compassionate.
  • Don’t be afraid to do the right thing.
  • Tell people they matter.
  • Value honesty.
  • Don’t let my heart be hardened.
  • Love, for the sake of love.
  • Endeavor to understand others.
  • Try to find common ground.
  • Lift people’s spirits.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Don’t stagnate.
  • Share my knowledge.
  • See beauty in everything.
  • Acknowledge effort.
  • Rest and relax.
  • Don’t hold things too tightly.
  • Pass things on to my kids; now. (not later, when they no longer need it.)
  • Be happy for others.
  • Celebrate their accomplishments.
  • Comfort and mourn with them.
  • Remind myself that it’s okay to cry.
  • Be thankful for each day I’m given.
  • Don’t worry about what people think.
  • Do what makes me happy.
  • Connect with people.
  • Give a damn.
  • Enjoy life.
