from the lost & found (a poem)

Large wooden movable-type letters that, together, spell out "Lost & Found" sit amongst a variety of metal movable-type letters.

Today I found this written on a piece of yellow note pad paper, folded up inside my journal from a couple of years ago, when I was going through a lot. It’s rough, like most of my stuff lately, but I feel it sums up how I was feeling back then pretty well.

If I am going to do this
I will have to give it my all
No holding back
No holding back

It is time to bear my soul
Time to open up and take a chance
‘cause without truth there can be no love
No real love

It is true that if I open my heart I may be hurt
but I can no longer live in this shell
My self imposed hell
Stuck here where I fell

It is time to stand up
Time to be real
Time to make a change
Time to heal
