If… (a poem)

Sun rays silhouette a man as he walks up a grassy hillside stairway toward a blue sky.

If I open up and share
all my struggles, all my shame
Will it reach the others
giving hope, replacing pain?

Standing up to help the few
my life seen through their eyes
Will they fear, will they judge
when gone is my disguise?

My spirit is a different kind
than what you see outside
For all these years you thought you knew
But all along I lied

Keeping it hidden, not letting it show
In fear I walked alone
Can you see the real me
or just this flesh and bone?
