Stop this ride (a poem)

A close-up view of the construction of a large wooden rollercoaster, taken from below. Light-brown steel rails sit atop a wood-encased steel structure.

The view from here is quite a sight.
I grip in fear, as knuckles go white.
Not letting go, I hold too tight.
Afraid I’ll fall from this dizzying height.

Stop this ride, I wanna get off.
Can’t take no more, my courage is lost.
My life’s at risk. I’ve counted the cost.
Please stop this ride, I wanna get off.

Life’s moving fast. It always will be.
I’m needing a break, some time just for me.
The signs are there for all to see.
I’m losing my grip on reality

Stop this ride, I wanna get off.
Can’t take no more, my courage is lost.
My life’s at risk. I’ve counted the cost.
Please stop this ride, I wanna get off.

Now things are calm, my stress in the past.
The coaster slows down, it’s stopping at last.
Is it the thrill, or my stupid pride,
that makes me jump on, for just one more ride?
