Thoughtless words can often hurt
and even bring a tear
to the eye of one we love
a heart that we hold dear
I found myself holding on
to words said by another
something said with no intent
but cutting deeply still
It hit upon a weakness
a failing clearly seen
A part I wish that I could say
was not a problem for me
My words are back to haunt me
with a message crystal clear
Their resolve it seems undaunted
as they come to find me here
So I ask my own forgiveness
for hurtful things I’ve done
But it’s easier to let them go
when I’m not the guilty one
