She climbed out of bed and, with the sleep still in her eyes, made her way to the bathroom. “A nice warm shower is just what I need,” she thought to herself.
The water felt good as it massaged her back and warmed her cold body. The song that she had been awakened by stuck in her head, she began to sing. All was well, things just as they should be. She reached out for the towel and saw that, once again, the mirror had become completely fogged over. She dried herself and stepped out onto the bath mat, drying each foot as she went.
Her brush gently taking the tangles out of her shoulder-length hair was relaxing. She remembered the days of her youth when she would lovingly brush her mother’s hair and complain, with a smile, about her father’s prickly beard. Those days long gone are now just inviting memories taking her back to a time when things were easier and time moved more slowly.
Hearing her family stirring about downstairs, she gathers the clothes she will wear that day. “It seems like a casual day to me,” she says aloud while grabbing a top and jeans from the closet.
Returning to the bathroom, she notices the fog has cleared and catches a glimpse of the man in the mirror. There is a twinge of pain at the sudden realization. “Dad, are you almost ready?” comes a voice from downstairs. “Almost!” calls the deep voice from within. “Just a minute!” she calls out as she wipes a tear from her cheek.
