Forever Home (a poem)

Faded dandelion flowers in the foreground, with a blurry house in the background
Our final home,
more than a house on a street.
It was the place we could be
you and me together, forever.

The difficult years behind,
I thought we were happy,
things finally going our way.
Spending our forever, together.

Were we naive,
foolish, deceived?
I know I deceived myself.

I feel your absence
in my life, in this house.
I search but no longer find
a reason to stay.

Though you are gone
still your presence lingers.
Looking around at what remains,
all I see is you.

Without you by my side
I will wander, incomplete.
But wherever I go, I know,
with you, here in my heart,
I will be forever home.

  1. This speaks to me, both of your grief and loss as well as my own. If you need to talk, you know where you can find me.
