The bullies carried baseball bats
wrapped in chain and tape.
Now they use both laws and lies
to hit us with their hate.
Their bills come crashing down
hundreds at a time.
“To protect our rights” they say
while brutally attacking mine.
Their lives hang by a thread
so many I can’t reach.
Schools under fire now,
for truth they choose to teach.
I guess kindness is an option.
That’s what they said in church.
‘Cause Jesus doesn’t fit their plan
just a weak, woke, leftist jerk.
It’s hard to find real hope these days
so much uncertainty.
Should I stay or must I run,
what will my end choice be?
I try to talk you off the cliff
from two-thousand miles away.
“Think of the people you can help,
if you choose to stay.”
I know that I can’t save them all.
I already failed that test.
I won’t give up, I’ll stand and fight.
I’ll do my very best.
Tonight, we focus on those we lost
to bigotry, rage, and fear.
It’s possible we lost one more,
while I’ve been standing here.
