Invisible (an acrostic poem)

Side view of an upset female student wearing jeans and a lavender hoodie. Sitting on an outdoor cement stairway, she leans against the wall beside it, her hands holding the side of her head in anguish.

I’m the invisible girl
Nobody knows exists,
Visible only to myself.
I shrink from view
Strategically blending
Into the background.
Boys can’t see past
Lies crafted to deceive,
Each built atop the last.

There’s too much at stake.
Reality’s far too harsh
A dangerous truth
Nobody survives,
Social suicide.

Gathering strength
I step into the light.
Rare beauty now seen,
Lying no more.
