It’s been a while (a poetic letter)

A close-up of a dust-covered, dirty computer keyboard.

It’s been a while since I wrote,
I know that’s quite strange.
Feeling better and worse.
I guess I’m the same.

Isolation’s been rough,
somehow I’m at peace.
Though my heart longs for you.
Do you also miss me?

Seasons must pass.
Years come to an end.
But I’m left with the loss
of both mother and friend.

Most nights are the same,
save for my sleep.
With memories waning
in the brisk winter’s keep.

The changes come slowly,
one cell at a time.
Along with them, comfort
in this body of mine.

When life ‘round me swirls,
and the tempest she roars.
I find comfort in feet
on a cold wooden floor.

That’s all I have now,
for my update in rhyme.
I’ll write again soon,
if life gives me time.

My mom used to write letters at the end of each year, to keep friends and family up to date on the happenings in our family.

I hadn’t written any poetry in a while and was inspired by Sad Poetic Trans Girl. So, in the middle of the night, I wrote a little update letter of my own.
