Life… (a poem)

A prisoner reaches out from behind prison bars. His hands stretched toward freedom.

Obligations and desires compete for my time

but are beaten down when exhaustion enters the ring.

I try so very hard to build and maintain

close, meaningful relationships with those I love;

the ones who give me strength to face the day with joy,

the ones who make me think, laugh, and cry.

LIFE…

Life always seems to get in the way.

I become lost in the never-ending maze

fashioned from my mundane existence.

Overwhelmed by all the little things that build walls

around and before me, I lose sight of you.

I lose sight of myself.

  1. I met you at the Jennifer Knapp concert in Lake Orion! I came to the concert with my friend and former co-worker, Angie.

    I LOVE this poem, “Life”!

    I’ll keep reading more of your poems and sharing them with a poet friend of mine, Martin Wolf! Have a great weekend!! Michelle
