On Days Like Today (thoughts)

Close-up of a lioness, open-mouthed, roaring, teeth bared in the light rain.

I find joy in the community we have made. I find peace amongst those who stand beside and support me. I look to the inspiring people in my community who have overcome many obstacles to be who they truly are in a society who sought to harm them.

Throughout the history of our country and the world, marginalized groups and peoples have experienced all kinds of oppression and stood strong despite the pushback. They have the scars to show for it, but they also have resilience. They stood their ground and, when pushed down, came back stronger.

We can have peace in our hearts, even amidst the struggle. We can shine our light in the darkness. We can lead others to safety and stand in the gap for them, but we cannot do any of it without focusing on hope, love, and joy.

This is where I find hope on days like today. I see over half the country that is not for the current administration. I see so many people willing to stand by me and my community, and I see allegiances forming between many of the marginalized communities who had for so long stood alone, or with little outside help, in their fight.

We stand together now, “in numbers too big to ignore.”

Hear us ROAR!!!
