One Voice (an anaphoric poem)

From less than a foot away, a man wearing black-framed glasses, a white dress shirt, and a red bow tie shouts through a loudspeaker at a woman wearing a flowered top, causing her hair to fly backward from the force of the sound.

One voice.
One mind.
One nation.
One people,
divided.

One race.
One humanity.
One planet.
One chance,
squandered.

One school.
One child.
One day.
One gun,
emptied.

One election.
One term.
One uprising.
One mistake,
repeated.

One right.
One more.
One silenced.
One less,
freedom.

One truth.
One source.
One religion.
One faith,
theirs.

One man.
One agenda.
One flag.
One rule,
his.

One leader.
One President.
One despot.
One tyrant,
ours.

It all starts with one.
