You and me (a poem)

(TW: Death)

I cried for you tonight,
and then I cried for me.
Then I cried for all we’ve lost,
for things we’d never see.

It was sudden,
believe me, it was strong.
Tears releasing all the hurt,
I’d been holding way too long.

You said that it’ll be okay,
or at least you hoped to be.
and though this may be hard,
I can choose, now, to be happy.

Tonight I feel your words,
as they tear into my soul.
You are gone while I am here,
still longing to be whole.
