Fear (an anaphoric poem)

A close-up of a sinister-looking man's face, with cracked skin and purple-blue eyes.

Fear makes people see things,
exactly how they thought.
Through biased eyes, accepting lies,
their heart should have fought.

Fear makes people see things.

Fear makes people hear things,
not how they were said.
distorting facts, understanding lacks,
the words that they had read.

Fear makes people hear things.

Fear makes people trust things,
things that are not true.
Can’t reach inside, their closed-up mind,
no matter what we do.

Fear makes people trust things.

Fear makes people believe things,
things that are not there.
There’s an enemy inside of me,
because of what I wear.

Fear makes people believe things.

Fear makes people feel things,
emotions deep within.
An open gate to budding hate,
they declare my life is sin.

Fear makes people feel things.

Fear makes people do things,
they normally wouldn’t do.
As trust erodes, their fear it grows.
Their anger it grows too.

Fear makes people do things.

Fear is how they control things,
the things we do and say.
The lives we live, are theirs to give,
but we’re the ones that pay.

Fear is how they control things.
