fell (a poem)

A couple holding hands, facing toward the sun, with a bright sun flare between the silhouetted fingers against a pale blue sky.

you were young,
and so was I,
two worlds were intertwined.

the day arrived,
we stood as one,
with love to last through time.

hand in hand,
we left that day,
together, come rain or shine.

the longer i live,
the more i see,
it’s true that love is blind.

you saw a string,
I saw one too,
as we started to unwind.

our love is strong,
it always was,
so we ignored the signs.

for as we grew,
and days passed by,
your hand fell slowly from mine.

we felt the loss,
then looked inside
and that’s when we did find.

for us to last,
we’d trade our love,
for one of a different kind.

we gave a gift,
as each one could,
the gift of friendship sublime.

i’ll take my leave,
no more to tell,
of this sad yet happy rhyme.

  1. To reply with an old baseball cliche, you did “hit it outta the park.” I’m particularly taken with the cross-artistry of illustrations (photos) and poetry.

One that hits me hardest is the blending of inner pain and the photograph of the carelessly thrown crutches (The Broken).

    Congratulations, my friend.
