Inconversant (a poem)
standing amidst traffic,
cars on each side,
the wind spins me around.
standing amidst traffic,
cars on each side,
the wind spins me around.
Constantly,
you made me question myself.
Relentlessly,
you told me I was not enough.
Our final home,
more than a house on a street.
It was the place we could be
you and me, together, forever.
Prevailing winds wrapped the flag
tightly around its pole.
All that could be discerned
were the stripes…
Being “woke” means remaining alert to racial prejudice and discrimination and being willing to stand up against oppression and seek justice and reconciliation.

Remember the ones
you passed in the hall
never stopping to talk
or know them at all?
The awkward kid
who didn’t fit in
tried to make friends
but just couldn’t win?
The definition of living a meaningful life
will differ for each person.
To some it may be to strive
for a form of greatness.
To others it may be
to make it through each day.
