Prevailing Winds (a poem)
Prevailing winds wrapped the flag
tightly around its pole.
All that could be discerned
were the stripes…
Prevailing winds wrapped the flag
tightly around its pole.
All that could be discerned
were the stripes…
The silence is over.
The time has now come,
where no longer fearful,
our voices ring clear.
A heavy storm is brewing,
out on horizon’s line.
Panic sets as we worry how,
to prepare ourselves in time.
Cowering in fear
a life without meaning
my purpose in vain
exist without feeling
I turn up the music
to the threshold of pain
drown out the voices
all shackled in chains
Don’t know where to go
there’s nowhere to hide
’cause you can’t run
from the monster inside
Mad at the world,
and all of those in it,
who think they can run people’s lives.
Is greater good
their true motivation
or just dark desires inside?
Long after the war has ended,
it rages in our hearts.
Continually choosing sides,
is driving us apart.
Finding some small difference,
separates the two.
In the war of us and them,
it’s time for us to choose.
